Neck pain is most commonly caused by vertebrae (bone) joint misalignments (malposition) and the resulting muscle spasms. Pinched nerves in the neck can cause pain, numbness and tingling (pins and needles) which can radiate into the arm, hand and fingers.

The neck (cervical spine) is comprised of seven bones (vertebrae C1-C7) which are stacked one on top of the other. Between each vertebrae is a disc (a cartilage pad which acts as a shock absorber). This disc protects the vertebrae by adding a “cushion”. Each vertebra has a left and right facet joint which connects them together. The cervical spine also houses and protects the upper spinal cord.  This spinal cord transmits messages to and from the brain.  There are nerve roots which branch out from the spinal cord through openings in the vertebrae spacing. These nerves carry the brains messages to and from the neck, arms, hands and fingers.

Most of us are born with a normally aligned cervical spine.  Injuries can easily affect their alignment.  Some of the more common injuries seen are trauma related to falling, auto accidents and sports injuries. Any of these traumas and many more can cause cervical misalignments (Subluxations). These misalignments (subluxations) can produce symptoms of neck pain.

Gentle and effective chiropractic spinal adjustments can offer fast and effective results.
